Every year, we think of visiting a hilly region because in summer and monsoons there is always a weather problem. Last autumn, after our mid term and before the last term school decided to send the 10th students on a training tour.
When we heard rumours about the trip so we requested the principal to confirm the tour.
And finally he gave the selection order signing that only top 15 Cadets of every section will move. Though my many friends were not in the list, but I was happy that somehow I come in the top 15 of my section. I talked to parents and started packing for it.
Two days later at morning 5 AM, the school bus horned and we came out with our luggage for 7 days. We reached Shillong at evening. We entered the Gorkha Regiment Centre of the Indian Army, we were given good quality room and food. Two soldiers and two officers were on our duty. Next morning we visited the local sides and then took rest.
Third day we drove to upper Shillong, clean and green cantonment area. The Elephant Falls was very very peaceful and remarkable. We all went down to get close to the falling stream of water making a pool below. Then It took us half an hour through deep and dark road to reach this view point. We climbed a flight of stairs to have a view of a wooded valley, cloud and mist, making sure to lift the draping of fog every now and then to let us see heavenly scenes. Shillong was filled up with Pine, Oak, orchid and rocks. It was an incredible experience. I wish I could stand there for ages to witness the colour of nature’s wonder.
The DBM or The Don Bosco Museum showcases the history and culture of the seven sisters of the North-east. The displays photographs and reflect the evolution of early man to the present time. The exhibits show the everyday life of the tribal groups of the seven states. There is a brilliant video show with music putting across the salient features of the region. DB is very clean and well-maintained.
As a NCC cadet of Sainik School we got the privilege to visit the most secret and annoying & interesting Radar House which is the only single Radar in the NER of Air Force that covers our border till China. We were welcomed by Fly. Lt. Taniya Brist madam. They provided us one of the best quality High Tea Party and we left for Shillong View Point inside the campus.
Just after leaving that place, we got a information that the Commander of Eastern Air Command is expecting us to visit them for one more High Tea Party with him. And we never wanted to miss such a aswome chance.
We enjoyed such that we didn't know when 7 days finished. We sang regimental song with the Gorkhas, then went for field training with Assam Rifles and again we also visited the great shooting range restricted area.
